Luca Viișoreanu and the Real Racing Team Come Close to a Podium Finish at Monza

Luca Viișoreanu and the Romanian team Real Racing continue their strong performance this season in the Italian Formula 4 Championship, narrowly missing their first overall podium after finishing fourth in Race 3 at Monza.

The Monza circuit hosted the third round of the Italian Formula 4 Championship this past weekend, where Luca Viișoreanu and the Romanian team Real Racing came very close to a podium finish, securing fourth place overall in the third race—marking their best result so far in the Italian series.

This round at Monza was the first this season to follow the traditional format of the Italian F4, with all drivers participating in two qualifying sessions and three races—two held on Saturday and one on Sunday morning.

For Luca Viișoreanu and Real Racing, the weekend started on Thursday with collective tests, followed by Friday’s free practice sessions and the two qualifying rounds. “Unfortunately, qualifying didn’t go well for us. I hit traffic on every outing, which compromised our lap times, but I’m optimistic about recovering in the races, considering the strong pace we showed in testing,” said Luca Viișoreanu at the end of Friday.

In Saturday’s two races, Luca started both times from 23rd position on the grid and managed to climb close to the points zone. In the first race, he finished 12th after gaining 11 positions, and in the second race, he ended up in 14th place.

“After qualifying, I knew it wouldn’t be an easy day, but I tried to gain as many positions as possible in each race. In the first race, I felt really good in the cockpit, I trusted the car, and the pace was very strong. In the second race, the pace wasn’t quite the same, but thanks to a good start and a few overtakes, I managed to climb to 14th. We still have one more race on Sunday, so we’ll apply everything that worked so far and hope to finish in the points,” Luca said after Saturday’s races.

In Race 3, Luca started from 19th on the grid and managed to climb all the way to fourth place, finishing less than half a second behind the third-place driver. This marks the best result for both Luca and Real Racing in the Italian F4 Championship, after having already claimed a race victory earlier this year at the Red Bull Ring in Austria in the Formula 4 CEZ (Central European Zone) series.

“The race was full of incidents and multiple safety car periods, but I managed to stay focused and gain positions lap after lap. In the end, I finished fourth, which means important points for me and for the team in the overall standings of the Italian F4. It was the perfect ending to a weekend where we worked really hard. Thank you to the Real Racing team—I can’t wait for the next race,” added Luca Viișoreanu, who has collected 14 points over the first three rounds of the Italian F4 season.

The next round of the Italian Formula 4 Championship will take place on the weekend of July 11–13 at the Mugello Circuit. Later in July, the first round of the European E4 Championship is also scheduled, taking place at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France from July 18–20.

“After the victory in Formula 4 CEZ, then the points at Vallelunga, and now coming close to our first overall podium in the Italian series—I’m proud of everything the team has achieved and how well Luca managed this weekend. Considering this is only our second season in the championship, it’s an impressive performance. We’re currently sixth in the team standings, out of twelve teams registered in the Italian F4—one of the most competitive series in the world,” said Constantin Răileanu, team manager of Real Racing.
